Call for youth camp volunteer counselors!

Our “Camp Castaway” youth camp is quickly approaching and we are on the lookout for a few good volunteer counselors, male and female.  We have a youth camp (ages 9-12) and a teen camp (ages 13-17) this summer, and so will need both teen volunteers (for the kids) and age 18+ volunteers (for the teens).  This year camp runs for two weeks, with one session from Aug 1-7, and one session from Aug 7-13 (with the possibility of a double session for campers).  Ideally, counselors would volunteer for both sessions, but coming for one session only would also be helpful (preferably the first session - more campers have signed up for it). Volunteers would also need to attend a mandatory orientation session in Long Beach sometime during the week of July 19-25 (date and time TBD).

Skit night with The Catalina Experience

As I think previous counselors would attest, volunteering for TCX’s youth camp is lots of fun!!  Counselors get to participate in all kinds of activities with the campers that make Catalina special: kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, survival skills, campfires, games, and more.  Counselor duties include participating in all activities with the campers, being a good role model, making friends with and playing with campers, being accountable for campers’ locations at all times, and sleeping in the same tent cabins with campers.  TCX will pay for the ferry ride to and from White’s Landing.

Montebello Beach Clean Up

Special thanks to the Montebello High School students who requested to spend their free time cleaning up the beach from a mass of debris that floated in from what was believed to be a recent boat sinking off shore.

Thanks to Martin and Gina for their Volunteer Help

Martin in the kitchen

Volunteer’s provide a critical service to the camp operations as well as an opportunity to get to know the staff and have a lot of fun. Special thanks to Martin and Gina for their recent visit to the island. Martin was all over the place, helping in the kitchen as well as the waterfront. Welcome back Gina, a former employee of The Catalina Experience. Her services were much appreciated in the maintenance and waterfront area’s this past weekend!
