First group of the season
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 by Anna.

We started off small with our first group of the season, CSUSB’s Lambda Sigma Biology Club, who arrived at White’s on Saturday and left Monday. It was a beautiful weekend, and we hiked, kayaked, tidepooled, and snorkeled (the water was cold, and we all stayed in longer than I thought we would!). The group even tested out our brand new GPS treasure hunt for us, and gave me some useful suggestions. I didn’t know that it was going to mean two of the boys swimming and walking around in their boxers, so I will be sure to tell our future campers to wear swimsuits!

On the last day, we played a long game of beach volleyball before the group packed up. Many of them gave me their emails so I could contact them about possibly volunteering as counselors for our summer camp this season, Camp Castaway. So hopefully we will be seeing them again!

Newest Staff Member at Whites
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 by grant.
Well, the newest TCX staff member is finally here. Everything went as good as it could. Michelle and I are trying to figure this new parenting thing out one day at a time. This will be a life changing experience for Michelle and I… oh and we can’t forget about Morgan’s big sister, Puka. By the way Puka doesn’t know what to think about him yet. Everytime he cries or makes a sound she trips out and turns her head sideways in curiosity. Well, there will be more updates to follow.

Shower Remodel
Monday, March 15, 2010 by Eugene.

Those of you that have had the outdoor shower experience at Whites Landing will be happy to hear that those facilities are getting a substantial face lift. Many thanks to volunteers Lou Anderson, Scott Maher, Alan Singer, Terry Swney and Terry’s very skilled plumbing crew. As of today, they are more than half way done with the the refit, and most of what’s left is sealing and painting.

Lou, our most active volunteer handyman at camp, has been working on the project since last Thursday, and Scotty joined him on Friday. They have been rebuilding the stalls and outer screens and getting ready for the plumbing crew to come in and fit the copper pipe. Terry and his guys arrived today and got all the pipes and valves in the main shower pavilion and laundry room. Tomorrow they plan to fit the valves on the upper camp pavilion and the plumbing will be complete. Lou and Scott will spend the next few days covering everything up with new panels, then Jimmy will paint everything.
Next time you’re looking up at the stars while enjoying a hot shower at Whites Landing, I hope you can appreciate the very valuable contributions these great volunteers made this week. Thanks guys!
